Balloon Rocket by Ben
Aim: To make the balloon go from chair to chair.
Hypothesis: I think the biggest balloon with fishing wire would go the furthest because the straw will slide better.
Resources:
Two chairs
Masking tape
Scissors
String
Fishing wire
A straw
A balloon
Method:
1. Place two chairs 4 metres apart.
2. Tie one end of the string to one chair.
3. Thread the string through the straw
4. tie the other end of the string to the other chair.
5. Blow up a balloon but DO NOT TIE IT.
6. Tape the balloon to the straw.
7. Now you can launch.
Results:
When we used the string and round balloon it went 4 m 70 cm. Then for a variable we used the string and a long balloon, which went 2 m 25 cm. This was a shorter distance.
Conclusion:
My hypothesis was wrong because I thought the biggest balloon and fishing wire would go the furthest. What actually happend was the biggest balloon and string went the furthest. This was because the string created friction which made drag and it needs thrust and drag this is part of the princeables of flight.
